OUR PLACE:
Mikey’s Place is an 8,000-square-foot warehouse dedicated to nurturing the arts in New Mexico. It contains a heated/cooled dance studio (the Produce Room) and 2,700-square-foot workshop (Bay 1), as well as a shielded bay for welding (the Bin). A half-acre adjacent lot is available for event parking or activities requiring outdoor space. Mikey’s Place is located near New Mexico State University, Interstate 10 and Mesilla. El Paso, Texas, is less than an hour’s drive away. See Map. We offer hourly, daily and monthly rates, in addition to consideration for in-kind services. Special events sponsored by Mikey’s Place benefit our resident artists and our community.
The workshop is commonly known to old time Las Crucens and Mesilleros as “The Old Mendenhall’s Produce Building,” for the vegetable processing and shipping business that once resided here. In 1998, Precision Engineering, Inc. moved into the building. Now, the updated company is known as Prergrine GeoConnect, Inc., and still occupies a portion of the building. Peregrine GeoConnect operates in the Loft and Bay 2. Peregrine's staff and equipment are available to assist in material and structural design as well as transport of projects incubated at Mikey’s Place. Peregrine also offers science based art classes and lectures through Mikey's Place.
OUR PEOPLE:
Through an odd twist of fate the founders of Mikey’s Place are engineers, an anthropologist, an HRTM Specialist, and a skilled craftsman. We bring a deep appreciation of the intrinsic value of art, as well as the capabilities to facilitate its production and management. What we don’t bring is any preconceived notion of how your art should be manifested nor any jaded judgments of its value to you or society.
OUR POSITION:
Art in all forms is essential to the well-being of humankind. To many it is an expression of our link to a higher consciousness. Mikey’s Place seeks to provide a nurturing environment and a useful, well-equipped space in which to create, as well as inclusive programs that bring the transforming power of art to everyone.
